What is facial reconstruction?

Facial reconstruction is a procedure that’s personalized to you and any injuries or concerns you have. Depending on your needs, facial reconstruction can include any of the following types of procedures:

  • Face-lift, brow lift, ear surgery, or blepharoplasty
  • Fracture repair, including a rhinoplasty 
  • Facial laceration repair
  • Reanimation

What happens during a facial reconstruction procedure?

No two facial reconstruction procedures from Visage Surgical are exactly alike. But in general, Dr. Folk may perform any of the following steps:\

  • Create flaps (local tissue rearrangement) 
  • Graft or transfer skin, bone, or cartilage
  • Remove excess skin, tissue, or fat
  • Reconstruct or reshape bones 
  • Rearrange muscles 
  • Remove scar tissue 

 

In some cases, facial reconstruction repairs are outpatient procedures. But if you need a series of complex repairs or if you have underlying health concerns, Dr. Folk may have you stay in the hospital for a night or two for observation. 

What are typical treatments for facial reconstruction?

How long is the recovery after facial reconstruction? 

Minor swelling, discomfort, and bruising can last for up to two or three weeks. Even though full recovery from facial reconstruction can take at least six to eight weeks, you can feel confident that you’re going to have harmonious results.
